Course Description

This course introduces students to three literary genres, namely drama, poetry, and prose, that are written in English. The course teaches literary elements that construct literary works and reflect the creative thinking of its writer and the social context of the text. By understanding how the writer makes us of the literary elements, students will be able to appreciate and analyze literature. The course applies interactive teaching methods, independent work, and discovery learning. Students will be guided to analyze social issues depicted in the text, notice the narrative strategies, and practice presenting and discussing their findings with others in the class to enhance their understanding of the text. At the end of the course, students will be able to create a short review of the literary work.

  1. explain the meaning and function of literature as well as identify the elements of literature.
  2. apply the close reading method to a literary text and text annotation.
  3. analyze the elements of the three genres in literature to draw an interpretation.
  4. configure the theme of a literary work from the connection of its elements.
